| Description of the hospital: Chaseways caters for male or female adults with learning disabilities, who may also be detained under a section of the Mental Health Act 1983 (including those on Restriction Order) due to their mental disorders and challenging behaviour Care provision: The clinical care provision will encompasses: • Continuous treatment and rehabilitation for those needing longer-term healthcare. The hospital has a minimum of 5 staff on duty (both qualified and unqualified nurses) providing 24-hour nursing care • Care Programme Approach (CPA) individually tailored to each patient • Psychiatric input - The Responsible Medical Officers (RMO) for the units are Consultant Psychiatrists, who is in charge of the overall clinical management of all patients within the hospital An RMO's involvement includes: • With support from other clinicians, the assessment of new referrals for admission, and deciding on discharge or transfer to other suitable units • The RMO participates in planning and attending CPA/Section 117 discharge meetings, prescribes medication, monitors the progress of patients, and considers referrals for other therapies eg occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and psychology • A consultant psychiatrist is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The consultantsregularly review and authorise leave from the unit (under Section 17 MHA for detained patients) • Clinical reviews are carried out regularly using a multi-disciplinary approach Reports are prepared including psychiatric, nursing and social circumstances reports for the Statutory Hospital Managers and Mental Health Review Tribunal, and (for restricted patients) periodic reports by the RMO for the Home Office Local Day Services: Day Services form an integral part of the care package for all patients. The units all have access to an on-site day resource to meet some of the leisure/occupational needs of each patient. A variety of activities is available: computer studies, leisure,recreation, educational and occupational skills, and the development of hobbies and interests. There is an on site snack shop, a hard standing sports area and a spa pool. Community based activities such as leisure centres, specialist occupational and educational establishments are accessed as appropriate. The Clinical Team: Our specialist care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team:team: • Consultant Psychiatrists (Section 12 approved) • Therapists: Psychologists, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapists • Nurses (RMN, RNLD) • Health Care workers Exclusions: The hospital is not designed for those requiring medium or high security, acute or emergency treatment. The hospital: A purpose built hospital providing continuing health care services for up to 8 adults, normally aged 18 Plus The hospital is robust in design yet domestic in style.
